Our Pastoral Assistants will:

  • Adopt a rule of life and experience the joys and challenges of full time ministry within the catholic tradition, with time built in for theological study and reflection.

  • Live, pray and work from St Martin’s House, sharing a common life of prayer and worship grounded in the daily Mass and offices.

  • Be rooted either in the Parish of The Ascension, Torrisholme or St Barnabas’, Morecambe

  • Work alongside and under the supervision of the parish clergy, both of whom are priests of the Society of St Wilfrid and St Hilda, and the Society of the Holy Cross

  • Be offered a prayerful and supportive context in which to explore their vocation, as well as the beginnings of formation.

  • Be ‘Volunteer Workers’, each contracted to the project. This means that the participants will receive a modest living allowance and expenses for their time with us, which would usually be for just under a year, starting in September and concluding in July.

Our two parishes offer a rich and diverse context in which to live, worship and minister, and we offer varied opportunities for gaining experience from the wider community, including nearby schools, parishes and chaplaincies, and other community projects such as the local foodbank and organisations supporting the homeless.

We are seeking partnership with theological colleges, and offer the opportunity for ordinands in training to undertake placements at St Martin’s House.
